Attention Alumni!
I'm very happy to announce that the long awaited move to our own domain has just been completed!
I've been trying to make this happen for quite a while, but finances to pay for registering my own domain name and monthly costs to host the site were just not available. I have managed to set some money aside for this purpose and expect to have at least a 3 year committment on the domain name and the web hosting package.
So what does this mean? For one thing - and one that I'm sure everyone will appreciate - there are NO MORE BANNERS, POP UP ADS, or anything like that on the new site. Secondly - the site is superfast! Third - I will be able to offer extras like our own FREE forum, chat room, etc. Fourth - as soon as I can work it out, I will offer a limited number of free email addresses in the form "yourname@calhounalumni.org" on a first come - first serve basis. Fifth - I now have a full 500 megabytes of storage available, instead of the 30 megabytes I have here at Tripod.
I want to emphasize to you all that this is all totally FREE to alumni, as will be any enhancements I install - such as the private chat room and eventually the BBS forum running phpBB software.
I am leaving the Tripod site active for approximately 30 days so those alumni who do not have a current email address on file will be able to find the new site, but please adjust your "Netscape bookmarks" or "Internet Explorer favorites" to point to the new site.
Last but not least - the new site URL is easy
to remember - http://calhounalumni.org
Note the new indicator is .ORG - not .com - and
it is not necessary to add "www." when typing the address.
Looking forward to hearing from you with comments, suggestions, etc. on the new site!
