=Latest News=
I've made several changes to the site
to make getting around easier for all. First, you'll notice the links to
Class News is no longer on the menu to the left. If you visit the Class
Contact List page you'll see a new interface there also. Why? Because the
numbers of alumni joining the list has increased drastically lately I can
no longer fit everyone on the single page I used to use and have it display
properly. So I have broken the list down into groups by decade. In addition
- each decade page now has a direct link to News from those classes as
well as a button if you want to be listed. So everything you need concerning
your particular class year now resides in one location. This should make
it easier for everyone.
A number of
alumni have joined the party lately, and about the best comments I can
hear are that so many of you have managed to reconnect with old friends
via this website. That is my main reason for creating this site, as it
was when I created the Delphi Forum, now administered by Don Ericksen.
We will soon have our own domain and new home free of the annoying popups
and banners here at Tripod.
For those new
here, please remember that all alumni returning for visits do not read
the guestbook, so messages you leave there asking for connections may not
be seen. To help with that, I usually gather your comments there and copy
them to the appropriate class page, i.e., "Classes of the 60's", "Classes
of the 70's", etc. I then list your email and name to the Class List page.
If there are alumni in particular you are looking to connect with - please
email me separately and I will place your request on the "Looking For"
page.
I genuinely
appreciate the very kind comments many of you have sent concerning my website.
Hopefully you too will connect with old friends and classmates!
There have been many requests
for information on buying replacement yearbooks lately in private emails
to myself. Unfortunately, I have no source to provide you other than to
contact Calhouns Library department, where I was told there are occasionally
extra copies of yearbooks available. I suggest that anyone looking for
a yearbook use the link to Calhouns website and go all the way to the bottom
and use the link to Ellen Johanson and email her for help. This is something
I need to talk over when I meet principal David Seinfeld shortly. Also
- if you have an extra copy of any yearbooks you would like to make available
... please email me!
I would like to advise everyone that
I just received a very nice email from Mr. David Seinfeld - the newly appointed
Principal at Calhoun - offering his assistance to me with this website.
David sounds like a very nice gentleman and we will get together soon after
school starts to discuss mutual cooperation. This is an excellent opening
for us to bring all alumni into the fold and let current students know
where they can go to get info on classmates!
Also - the wonderful Ann (Mullaney)
McDonough will be trying to get other retired teachers to drop by and let
us know what they have been doing in their retirement. So hopefully I will
be getting some news to post on the Teachers page!
About this website
The genesis of this website goes back
to January 2000, when our previous gathering place at classmates.com began
charging for basic access to the message forums. I decided then that we
needed a new place to hang out and exchange memories that was free of charges
and assorted nonsense. So - I applied for and created a new message forum
at delphi.com - which was a free message forum service almost exactly like
the original classmates.com. Little by little, classmates started drifting
over to our new forum. The only problem I saw was that the majority of
members were from the earlier classes of the 60's.
I then decided that we needed a place
for all alumni to visit to get information on Calhoun, new events,
reunions, general goings-on, news about teachers, etc. without fear of
being left out by the older classes. That resulted in my obtaining a URL
and the creation of this website.
I'd like to thank Ellen Johanson
- Library Media Specialist at Calhoun High School - for establishing a
link from the official Calhoun High School district website to our Alumni
site! Ellen tells me that she has had many inquiries from people asking
how to locate alumni, and now she knows to send them to us. Thanks, Ellen!
I need help
with the memorial pages! Anyone with info on deceased classmates and/or
teachers is asked to please contact me so they can be honored. If possible,
the time period teachers were at Calhoun would help so I can try to include
a picture on the page. This is especially so for those on our Honor Roll
from Vietnam - if anyone has info, class years, pics, etc of any of the
men listed but without a picture or other info- please contact me!
We want to honor these men appropriately and need info I don't have at
hand. Also, if you wish to add a remembrance of one of the men, just send
me an email with what you want added and I will post it immediately. You
may submit pics, etc of your honoree for posting. I think it's important
for friends and family to know that we remember their loved ones in their
absence. Please help us do so. I will also include general sentiments concerning
any of the teachers who are included on their page.
Calhoun alumni
are encouraged to submit any items of interest - be it class pictures,
reunion information and pics and stories from reunions, etc. In short -
anything pertaining to your class you'd like to show off! Don't be shy
- if you have *anything* you'd like to say please let the Webmaster know
so it can be included in your classes area. So far only the 60's are represented.
Let's hear it from the rest of the classes! I am actively seeking new pics
of the "old" Merrick for the "Our Town" page. Anyone with anything to offer,
please let me know. Just click on the "Email Webmaster" button under the
menu!
Reunion
Committees!
I have received
a large number of inquiries from alumni about possible reunions of their
classes. Please let me know if your class is planning a reunion so
I can include the info on the website! Unfortunately, not everyone who
participates on the forum checks this site regularly, and vice versa. The
only way to be sure everyone is aware of your reunion plans is to either
have it posted at both locations - or advise me by email and I will do
it for you. I would hope you'd want to participate in our message forum,
but will in any case, post anything you'd like alumni to know right here.
